ΙΧΘΥΣ would be a very early ancient Christian inscription having to do with Christianity, translating to fish in English, thus it is what we know as the ‘Jesus Fish’. ΙΧΘΥΣ (ichthys), or also ΙΧΘΥϹ with a lunate sigma, is an acronym and acrostic for „Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ” (Iēsous Christos, Theou Yios, Sōtēr), which translates into English as „Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour”.
Provenance: United States of America.
Ownership History: From private collection in the United States, bought in private sale in the USA.
Provided with a Certificate of Authenticity and Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity. The ichthys, from the Greek ikhthýs (ἰχθύς 1st cent. AD Koine Greek [ikʰˈtʰys], „fish”) is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point to resemble the profile of a fish.
