Apostolic letter from Bishop Paul to the clergy of the city (diocese of Genoa) to receive the chosen Augustine as Father and Shepherd of Souls and to show him obedience and reverence (under threat of being categorised as rebels, with the associated legal and ecclesiastical consequences) Bishop Paul, servant of the servants of God, greets his beloved sons, the clergy of the city and diocese of Genoa, and blesses them apostolically. This day, on the advice of our brothers, we have taken care with apostolic dignity of the Church of Genoa, which lacks the consolation of a pastor because of the passing away of Jeronimus1 of blessed memory, former Archbishop of Genoa at the Apostolic See, and have called upon the person of our venerable brother Augustin2 , the former Bishop of Accia, as Archbishop of Genoa.

We therefore charge your excellence by means of an apostolic letter to receive this chosen Augustine as your Father and Shepherd of Souls with friendly respect and to show him due and devoted obedience and reverence, to take his salutary instructions and orders upon you and to endeavour to fulfil them devotedly and obediently. Otherwise we will recognise as valid the judgement which this chosen Augustine will duly pass on the rebels and, with the help of God, will have it inviolably observed until worthy satisfaction. Given at Rome, at St Peter’s, in the year of the Incarnation of the Lord 1559, on the 15th day before the calends of May (=17 April3 ), in the fourth year of our pontificate.

Apostolisches Schreiben von Bischof Paul an den Klerus der Stadt (Diözese Genua), um den erwählten Augustin als Vater und Seelenhirten zu empfangen und ihm Gehorsam und Ehrfurcht zu zeigen (unter Androhung der Einstufung als Rebellen, mit den dazugehörigen rechtlichen und kirchlichen Folgen) Bischof Paul, Diener der Diener Gottes, grüßt seine geliebten Söhne, den Klerus der Stadt und der Diözese Genua und segnet sie apostolisch.

Am heutigen Tag haben wir uns auf Ratschlag unserer Brüder mit apostolischer Würde um die Kirche Genuas gekümmert, welche wegen des Hinscheidens des Jeronimus seligen Angedenkens, des ehemaligen genuesischen Erzbischofs beim Apostolischen Stuhl den Trost eines Pastors entbehrt, und haben die Person unseres ehrwürdigen Bruders Augustin5 , des ehemaligen Bischofs von Accia zum genuesichen Erzbischof erwählt, also stellen wir diesen Augustin als Erzbischof und Pastor an die Spitze dieser Kirche, übertragen ihm gänzlich die seelische und weltliche Fürsorge und Administration dieser Kirche, wie dies in unserem Brief darüber ausführlicher beschrieben ist.

Verweise und Aufträge auf euch zu nehmen und euch zu bestreben, diese ergeben und folgsam zu erfüllen, ansonsten werden wir das Urteil, das dieser erwählte Augustin über die Rebellen gehörig fällen wird, als gültig anerkennen und es mit Hilfe Gottes bis zur würdigen Genugtuung unverletzlich befolgen lassen. Scrisoare apostolică a Episcopului Pavel adresată clerului orașului (Eparhia Genova), pentru a-l primi pe alesul Augustin ca părinte și păstor de suflete și pentru a-i da evlavioasă ascultare (sub amenințarea de a fi catalogați drept răzvrătiți, cu consecințele juridice și ecleziastice asociate ce vor decurge de aici).

Episcopul Pavel, Slujitorul Slujitorilor lui Dumnezeu, îi salută pe fiii săi iubiți, clerul orașului și eparhiei Genova și îi binecuvântează apostolic. În această zi, la îndemnul fraților noștri, ne-am îngrijit cu demnitate apostolică de Biserica din Genova, rămasă fără mângâierea unui pastor în urma trecerii în neființă a lui Ieronim7 , binecuvântat fie el, fostul Arhiepiscop al Genovei la Scaunul Apostolic. Cinstind persoana venerabilului nostru frate Augustin8 , fostul episcop de Accia, ales Arhiepiscop al Genovei, îl numim pe acest Augustin ca arhiepiscop și pastor în fruntea acestei biserici, încredințându-i în întregime grija spirituală și temporală, precum și administrarea acestei biserici, așa cum este descris detaliat în scrisoarea noastră de față. În caz de nesupunere vom recunoaște drept valabilă judecata pe care acest ales Augustin ne-o va transmite în privința răzvrătiților și, cu ajutorul lui Dumnezeu, o vom considera inviolabilă până când ea va fi dusă la îndeplinire. Dată la Roma, la Sfântul Petru, în anul Întrupării Domnului 1559, în a 15-a zi înainte de calendele

Apostolsko pismo Biskupa Pavla (Paul) gradskom sveštenstvu (Đenovske biskupije) da primi odabranog Avgusta, kao oca i pastira duše i da mu ukaže poslušnost i poniznost (pod pretnjom  ocenjivanja kao buntovnika, sa pripadajućim pravnim i crkvenim posledicama). Biskup Pavle, sluga slugu Božijih, pozdravlja svoje voljene sinove, gradsko sveštenstvo kao i biskupiju Đenovsku i blagosilja ih apostolski. Na današnji dan smo se, po savetu naše braće, sa apostolskim dostojanstvom brinuli o crkvi Đenovskoj, koja je zbog odlaska Jeronima10, blaženog sećanja na bivšeg Đenovskog biskupa, kod Svete Stolice dobila utehu pastora, i odabrali ličnost našeg prečasnog brata Avgusta11, bivšeg biskupa Acija (Accia) za Đenovskog arhiepiskopa, te tog Avgusta, postavljamo kao arhiepiskopa i pastora na čelo te crkve, prenosimo mu u celosti svoju duhovnu i svetovnu brigu kao i
administraciju te crkve, kako je to u našem pismu detaljno opisano.
