NOTE: Pope Leo X – Giovanni de’ Medici (1475-1521), the last non-priest to be elected Pope, believed by the Protestants to have caused the Reformation.

He excommunicated Martin Luther with a bull (which Luther publicly burned.)

1-page oblong legal folio (11 3/4” x 9”), signed on Leo X’s behalf by a Vatican cardinal. Enclosed 1 ½” diameter lead seal (detached) showing St. Peter and St. Paul on front side and Leo X Papal inscription on the back. The bull grants certain rights to the Cloister of Santa Maria della Consolazione in Rome.
