ENGLISH

The notebook consists of 8 files, respectively 16 pages – of which 7 pages are blank (= unwritten). It is tied with hemp thread, and written with two different types of writing: the one above (cover 1) contains pointers and verges with a visible watermark in the dimensions: 55 x 25 mm, palpable on the paper support.

The cover is of newer origin, namely the year 1646. The rest of the pages are original, both the writing and the paper being different – dimensions, palaeography and watermarks, etc. On cover 4, there are pointers and verges, the watermark is defective, which is repeated, caused by the manufacturing practices, every 4-6 sheets of the paper.

The inner tabs – which differ in size from covers 1 and 4 are 5 mm higher and slightly wider. It should be noted that this notebook is tied with hemp thread and contains two different writing supports: the top one, representing cover 1, is provided with pointers and verges, and has a visible watermark in the dimensions: 55 x 25 mm, palpable on the paper support. Cover 4: pointers and verges are missing, the watermark is also defective.

The inner tabs – which differ in size compared to covers 1 and 4 – are 5 mm higher and wider. It can be observed with the naked eye that these texts are much older. The paper is yellowed and the color of the ink is faded, so that the transcription of these manuscripts was difficult, requiring special procedures for enlarging and detecting the text.

A watermark was identified on file 8 (a cross framed in an elliptical circle with a diameter of 16 mm). The second watermark on the rest of the file is 60 x 25 mm. Pages 2 and 11-16 are blank/unwritten.

„File No. 1. Sentence in question and in favor of Teresa de Corbera et Monyo against Francisco de Corbera.

Abstract. Doc. No. 16/4/24.

This copy is based on and is an excerpt from the original of the trial and affair between the young nobleman[1] Mr. Baptista Raymundus de Monyo V.J.[2] and his wife, the noblewoman Theresia de Monyo et Corbera, on the one hand, and the young nobleman Magister Franciscus de St. Clement et Corbera on the other hand.

He who presided over the trial of the case in times of confusion was Magistrate C.R. Narcisus Peralta V.J., President of the Court. The copy has been issued and authenticated by me, Joannes Petrus Fabra, public royal notary with royal apostolic authority, member of the College of Barcelona, undersigned scribe of this trial commissioned by the College of Scribes”. (Top Latin)

Judgment on the dispute between Theresia de Monyo and Corbera and her brother Franciscus de Corbera on June 10, 1649 in Barcelona. Theresia was promised a dowry for her wedding to Raymundus de Monyo in the amount of 7,000 Barcelona pounds and two wedding chests by her parents, Anna Magdalena and Ludovicus de Corbera.

After the death of her parents, Franciscus does not want to pay his sister this dowry, but is sentenced to do so by the court after viewing all the documents and hearing all the witnesses. [signature]. Transcription from 1646 of the sentences handed down in 1183 in the case of Ines Desfar and her daughter, Sancia, v. Pons Desfar.

The court decides to return Desfar town and other property, and rights to Ines Desfar and her daughter. According to the footnote it is a copy of an original written on parchment by order of the Desfar-Corbera family. Consistent paper, although with slight perimeter defects. Oxidized paper. Text sometimes blurred but legible. This transumpt consists of 8 unnumbered sheets (16 pages), of which 8 pages are written (1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9), pp. 2, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 are blank (unwritten). Cover/tab 1 (pp. 1-2) and tab 6 (pp. 11-12) – each contain a watermark.

[1]  Domicellus means possibly squire, but rather unlikely here.
