Pope Clement VI – October 13, 1346

We, Bishop Clemens[1], servant of the servants of God write this as an eternal reminder of this matter: The view of divine piety moves our souls to open the gates of apostolic mercy, and as graciously assent with God, to the entreaties of such religious persons who, resisting the temptations of the world and the transience of our time, obediently cling to the heavenly King.

So since – as the recent petition addressed to us by our beloved son, the noble Humbert, Dauphin of Viennois[2], contained – he had long been concerned about his own well-being and that of his descendants and was pursuing the desire to exchange earthly things with a fruitful exchange to transform the perishable into eternal, a monastery with a church, a belfry, a bell, with houses, dwellings, and all other things necessary to build premises together for the nuns of the Augustinian Order, who live according to the rules and under the care of the brothers of the Order of Preachers, on the site of the Dauphin of Monteflorido in the Diocese of Grenoble for the glory and under the name of St. Peter the Martyr left and had supported with so much means, which with God’s help
